... to be similar organisations, charities and hospitals which have use for volunteers over Christmas if you prefer to give time rather than money. (If you’re alone at Christmas and feeling down, it’s better than sitting at home feeling sorry for yourself.)

There are a lot of worthy charities out there. I encourage you to get involved and help others, even beyond the holiday season. Go visit some of the other bloggers and see what charities they support. Perhaps take a look at some of their other work and see if they don't also deserve a place on your RSS list.
