Station Cash: Good Idea?
Nerfbat —
... Station Cash appears to have been both announced and pushed live this morning. I hadn’t heard about it before today, and I pay pretty decent attention to most games (especially those I used to work on). I’ll avoid giving my opinions about it, but I’m interested to see what other people think about it. In short, EverQuest and EverQuest II players can now pay real money to get certain items such as experience bonus potions. Thoughts? ...
EQ & EQ2 Station Cash: New Virtual Currency
EQ Vault - The Ultimate Resource —
... Station Cash is now available in both EverQuest and EverQuest II, a new virtual currency that be can used to purchase items of "convenience and customization" in game. Station Cash will not be available for Euro customers until December 10th. This is some pretty funky stuff. Basically, you have a wallet (hopefully not empty like mine!) and when you purchase cash, the equivalent amount of currency is put in your wallet. Then you hit the Marketplace where you proceed to go nuts and go broke! You can read more on the ...

It’s a tough day to be an SOE community manager.
SOE’s Station Cash
Cuppytalk —
... SOE today has both announced and pushed live their Station Cash system. Station Cash, while a pretty dumb name, is essentially a microtransactions system in Everquest and Everquest 2 that allows people to purchase items like potions and pets for real-life cash. Of course, the ...

... SOE opens an item shop for Everquest and Everquest 2.

Internet explodes. Good thing they have experienced community managers!
My thoughts? I’ll be brief. I don’t think this is appropriate for a subscription MMO. If SOE were to take EQ or EQ2 free to play? Sure. But item shops in a subscription-only MMO are… well… they cause Internet explosions. And if I were an EQ player, I’d be pretty horked, too. Especially since EQ is all about PvE ...
Community Management & Sensitive Announcements
Grimwell Online —
Today was a fun day in SOE Community Management. If you didn’t already know for some crazy reason, Station Cash went live in EverQuest and EverQuest II today. In a nutshell, Station Cash introduces microtransactions into these games, across the board. I see it as a great thing, as it enables the teams to answer some of the requests people have for greater customization and fun in the game. I like that kind of stuff. Not everybody thinks like me though, and there are some folks voicing their displeasure over the announment in the official forums for EQ and ...
SOE Reverses Itself: RMT Now Allowed In Sony MMOs
Wandering Goblin —
... of the RMT debate: should players be able to purchase character-enhancing items with real world currency? Sony's answer to that question has always been a morally outraged 'No!" Now, considering that 1) RMT is an extremely volatile issue among players, 2) Sony's hypocrisy on this is blatant, and 3) gamers can be something of a boisterous, contentious lot, do you think this might cause a wee bit of flaming, trolling, or gamer-rage? Nah...... [Source 1, Source 2]
SOE Adds RMT To Vanguard, Vision In A Corner Weeping Softly
Broken Toys —
... ) was limited to a few new servers, Vanguard players were told that it was being added to the entire game. This is similar to the Station Cash item shop which was added to all Everquest and Everquest 2 servers last year; the differences being while StationCash is an “item mall” where SOE sells low-impact items such as decorative clothing and XP boost potions, Live Gamer is a player-to-player items-for-cash arbitrage. It was pitched as ‘voluntary’ since, you know, no one is actually forcing you to buy anything! ...
