Exp for Sale: Microtransactions invade Everquest/EQ2
Player Versus Developer —
Sony has apparently, with little to no advance warning, rolled out a microtransaction system for Everquest and EQ2. Clockwork Gamer has a writeup of the items and prices in EQ2. Most of the items are cosmetic, such as cosmetic armor (EQ2 has cosmetic slots so you can hide the "hobo" appearence of the gear you're actually wearing), a minipet, and house items. The items go for a few dollars to as much as $10 for a full set of armor - the latter seems like a lot, but you don't outlevel cosmetic gear, so it's actually a permanent change of appearence for your ...

It’s a tough day to be an SOE community manager.
And Lo, The Seventh Seal Was Opened
Broken Toys —
... SOE opens an item shop for Everquest and Everquest 2.
More details on Kendricke’s blog.
Internet explodes. Good thing they have experienced community managers!
My thoughts? I’ll be brief. I don’t think this is appropriate for a subscription MMO. If SOE were to take EQ or EQ2 free to play? Sure. But item shops in a subscription-only MMO are… well… they cause Internet explosions. And if I were an EQ player, I’d be pretty horked, too. Especially since EQ is all about PvE ...
SOE opens micro transactions
Epic Slant - MMO Design and Guild Leadership —
... here and there so the monotony of leveling a second or third character is easier? You bet your sweet hind end I would. I’d be particularly thrilled if the money generated from the store would go back directly into the game. If it was just going to the top I’d be a little grumpy but otherwise, imagine the possibility. I frequently feel like developers get a small share of the total pie. I think if more money stayed inside the project we’d see better results. For more details you can read about it from Kendricke . He covered it very well. ...
Everquest I & II go microtransactions
Tobold's MMORPG Blog —
SOE just announced their newest venture, called Station Cash, offering microtransactions, the ability to buy in-game items for cash. Most are vanity items, but there are also xp potions, which give you a buff that increases the rate in which you level up. Some people like the idea, others give a neutral overview, with a third group not being happy about microtransactions in a game you already pay a subscription for. Me, I wouldn't mind the vanity items for cash, but am highly critical about those xp and achievement potions. The potions that increase ...
Station Cash
The Ancient Gaming Noob —
... Everybody else is talking about Station Cash being introduced into EverQuest and EverQuest II.
My own reaction: Meh.
Honestly, there isn’t a single item on the list for which I would pay cash. Not in either game.
But that is the danger of adding in RMT after the fact. You have to make the items useful, but not game affecting.
I am sure somebody out there will find this stuff a boon. And perhaps SOE will add better items in the future. But right now I cannot see even spending ...
RMT and Microtransactions Rant
The Ancient Gaming Noob —
... And speaking of SOE, the problem with what they are doing is that they are selling stuff for way too much money. When almost half (7 out of 16 in EQ2) of the items you are selling are at or above that financially viable threshold, you are (in my opinion) doing it wrong. You have priced things to a point where people will now think twice before they buy. ...
How Much is that Horsie in the Window?
The Ancient Gaming Noob —
... We saw it when SOE started offering RMT in EQ and EQ2 via their Station Cash program. I personally found some of the items they were offering for $10 to be ...
